One morning is all it takes - quick tutorial

Have you got a wall in your house that you need to fill?

Further, do you know what colours you want, but can't find anything that matches,
or is your style and taste?

Well, that was me! So I did a painting one morning...in fact, it wasn't even half a morning.

This, I promise, is a quick uncomplicated painting experience.

Hi everyone

I hope you are all well.  I apologise for my extended absence: I have been working through a few family priorities, but I hope you are still on board to engage in a quick painting tutorial that came about with a recent renovation of our family room.

My problem had been this: we had recently repainted our family room in white.  We had bought a beautiful new TV unit that is a soft rustic timber in a beige/cream.  I had bought some fabric I loved to make cushions, with gorgeous, calming aqua.  But there I was, with a big blank white wall space, right above my dominating chocolate couch.

Fix: I needed a painting for the wall.  I needed something uncomplicated, gentle and serene to soften the solid colour of my couch. I had nothing in the house that matched the requirement and I wasn't prepared to go hunting and pay silly money, when I knew what I wanted.

So!! With my trusty cushion fabric in hand I headed to my local hardware store for a paint match to this beautiful colour.

Luckily I also had a toy box I wanted to paint and recover too,
so 1L of paint was certainly not going to be wasted.

I also decided to use the beige colour we had used for our bathroom: I had a bit of this left over, so that only took a rummage in the garage.

And then I had my two main colours.

To these choices I added a couple of colours from my artists paints: chocolate and a thick white acrylic paint.

Four paint colours in total!

I was set to go!

Tutorial

I am going to come back in a couple of days to show you how to do this in a step by step photo guide.

Sorry!

However, you still have stuff to do!!

  • Decide on your four colour combination: this may involve you using house paint you already have, or going to grab some samble pots from your hardware store.

Now, my painting came up very oceanic
and trust me when I say that was not the intention.

But it fit my theme of colours, tranquility...
generally the colours will guide you.

What inspires you?
The sea, sky, sunset, hills, water, rain...a lolly pop!!

  • Get your other equipment:

    - a canvas to the size you want to paint - start small if you just want to experiment with this first.

    - some house brushes. I had a big canvas, so I used big brushes.  We don't want any fiddly fuss on this painting, just blended strokes with interest - so you decide what size, for your canvas size, is best.

    - a palette knife - don't buy one especially if you don't want one.  I used the side of mine, so if you don't want to buy one, a house knife is fine.

That's it!

Be back in a few days - I hope you are excited!!

Hugs

  2. We have the beachy theme going on in our home. Love these colours. Thank you so much for doing this, I've dabbled a little in acrylics and been told I have talent, but I haven't spent much time on it lately. (House reno's etc taking up too much time).

  3. Coming on by from Modern Country Style. I am so excited. I am familiar with some painting techniques (more fashion illustration) but have just started to step out of my comfort zone and then I saw this on MCS blog and here I am and am so excited! What a pretty painting! New follower.
